Açaí (ah-sigh-EE) is a world-renowned superfruit from the Amazon region. More than just a purple berry, it is considered the most powerful superfood in the Amazon. If superfoods were like sports teams, the açaí berry would — without question — be the all-star quarterback of fruits.

Açaí is a 1-inch in diameter berry, with deep purple skin, and a large-sized seed.

It comes from the Açaí Palm Tree (Euterpe oleracea Mart.), native to South American rainforests, concentrated in the Brazilian Amazon, and is wild harvested by hand.

Açaí berries are a nutrient-dense food, containing free radicals-fighting antioxidants and healthy omegas 3, 6, and 9, Polyphenols, and fiber, and are low in naturally occurring sugars.

THE AÇAÍ MARKET

With the exception of the pulp used in juices, smoothies, and bowls, tests show that the majority of products that present themselves as made of Açaí have little or no presence of the fruit in their formulations. Yet they still use the name of the fruit as a selling point.
